Handicap Rules

Dorset 2008

As agreed at the AGM, the handicap system has been formalised for 2006, after many years of guess work and unfair treatment to certain people!

From the beginning of the 2006 season all members will start with their CLUB handicap or within 2 shots of their latest OWGS  handicap as ratified by the Handicap Secretary.

Shots can be lost by :

    Handicap range     0-9  11-19   20+

   Winner                  2       3       4

   Runner up              1       2       3

If your  Club Handicap is reduced.

   (immediate reduction)

Shots can be only gained by Members who have previously been cut playing for OWGS

Gain 1 shot per OWGS round where they do not come 1st or 2nd

If your Club Handicap is increased. (NOT immediate - shots can only be gained by playing with OWGS)

At the discretion of the Handicap Secretary (OWGS handicaps only).

The additional shots must not give a handicap greater than their Club or initial OWGS handicap.

For example :  M Niblick has a Club handicap of 15.  He wins the opening day with a score of 37 points.  His handicap is reduced by 3 for winning . With me so far ? The next day out M Niblick only scores 28 points and is not a prize winner (1st or 2nd).  He gains 1 shot (back to 13).  The next day out again he only scores 28 points and gains another shot (14).  So it will take him 3 days out to get back to his original handicap assuming he does not win or come 2nd.  He will remain on that handicap until he is again a winner or runner up or his Club Handicap is reduced.

Day 2 28 12 13
Day 3 28 13 14
Day 4 29 14 15
